NEET 2016 News – Supreme Court to hear MCI’s decision on conducting separate entrance exams for states today.

The Supreme Court of India is likely to pronounce its verdict on the entrance test to be conducted for medical courses after seeking Medical Council of India’s (MCI) report today (5th may 2016). The apex court will decide whether state government will be allowed to continue with their respective exams for medical courses like MBBS and BDS or National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) should be made uniform for students aspiring for the courses from across the country.

The apex court will be hearing petitions by some states and private medical colleges seeking permission to continue with separate tests for admissions in the MBBS and BDS courses.

The court on Monday had appointed a three-member panel to oversee the working of MCI in regard to NEET. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat opposed the exams as their exams are pre-scheduled and students have already enrolled for it.

Acting on Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Centre’s decision, the Supreme Court had decision to hold the first round of NEET on May 1 by scrapping All India Pre Medical test (AIPMT). Over six lakh students appeared for i. Candidates who have not applied for AIPMT will be given opportunity to appear in the second round on July 24. The combined result will be declared on August 17 and the admission process will be declared by September 30.

However, various states, including the associations of private medical colleges were aggrieved the decision.
